Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ Answers

Why hire an arborist?
An arborist understands how trees grow and how they will respond to actions taken. Well cared for trees can add value to your property, while poorly kept trees can become a liability in the future. If pruning is done improperly it can cause unsightly injury and weaken or even kill the tree. Tree work can be dangerous unless it is done by someone with the proper equipment and skills. Our tree service will be there for you.

Best time to prune a tree or shrub?
For trees, anytime of the year is acceptable but during their winter dormancy is an ideal time. When pruning flowering shrubs one must keep in mind when buds are formed for the next season's blooms. This varies from one variety to another.

Why should a tree be pruned?
For the health of the tree. Limbs that are rubbing others should be removed. Weak limbs that are likely to break should be removed so that the tree's growth favors the stronger limbs. Removing dead or broken branches allows the tree to heal and encourages new healthy growth. A healthy tree adds beauty to the rest of the landscape. An Arborist can determine if a tree needs to be pruned, to what extent, and which parts to remove.
For the good of the house. Branches and leaves that are too close to a house keep your roof and siding damp, leading to algea or lichen growth. Moisture shortens the life of the exterior materials and paint. Branches that overhang a roof can be a pathway for insects or squirrels to gain access to your house and cause damage. A tree may be in danger of falling onto a house if it is unhealthy or unstable. Have a professional arborist make this determination.
Foundation and driveway. If your driveway has been broken up by tree roots its best to remove that tree before repaving. Excavating the site could kill the tree which will need to be removed, and if the tree lives, its roots will again cause damage to the new driveway. Tree roots can also infiltrate your foundation or plumbing depending on the species. Have the tree removed by our tree service to prevent further problems.
For your yard and home. Too much shade can make it impossible to grow a healthy lawn and shrubs and perennials that need full sun. It can also keep your house darker than it would be in the winter and prevent snow from melting off your roof and driveway as fast as it otherwise would. Tree removal or pruning can adjust your landscape to suite your needs.
